Creating Manual Opsgenie Alerts

In addition to alerts automatically generated by monitoring systems, you can also create alerts manually. When an alert is created, it is automatically routed to the responsible team based on the configured Routing Rule and Escalation Policy.

Manual alerts can be useful in the following situations:

  • When an incident is reported to the service desk and needs to be relayed to the responsible team
  • When a major incident occurs and multiple alerts need to be delivered to the related teams simultaneously
  • When you want to notify your entire team by phone about an incident

How to Create

  1. Click the Create button at the top left of the Alerts screen.
  2. Toggle Show advance fields at the top right of the Create Alert window. 
  3. Fill in the following fields:
    1. Alert message: Title of the alert to be created 
    2. Teams: The team(s) to receive the alert. An autocomplete list appears when entering text. Select from the list. Multiple teams can be selected. 
    3. Description: Contents of the alert 
    4. Priority: Severity of the incident 
    5. Tags: Label to categorize the alert. Enter Manual Alert if the alert should be delivered to all members of the selected team.
  4. Click the Create button to complete alert creation. 

How to Configure Notifications 

Adding Escalation Policies 

  1. Go to Teams > Main tab, and in the Escalation Policies section, click the Add Escalation button. 
  2. Configure as follows and click Update
    1. Name : Name of the Escalation Policy. Use the format <team_name_escalation_all> 
    2. Description : Description of the policy 
    3. Escalation Rules : Configure to contact all team members and leaders immediately upon alert generation, and repeat this every 2 minutes up to 20 times

Setting Routing Rules 

  1. Go to Teams > Main tab, and in the Routing Rules section, click the Add Routing Rule button. 
  2. Configure as follows and click Update
    1. Name : Name of the Routing Rule 
    2. Condition : Condition for executing this Routing Rule. Set it to trigger when the Tag includes Manual Alert 
    3. Escalation : Escalation Policy to be executed if the above condition is met. Select the policy that broadcasts the alert to all team members.
